Lead Special Education Teacher Grades 4-9
For Students With Emotional and Behavioral Disabilities
Served as Lead Teacher at the Northwest School of Innovative Learning from 2009-2014. Helped select resources and various accommodations to enhance the quality of the school.
Used data analysis programs to enhance IEP’s. Led IEP meetings with Special Education directors from 20 different school districts in the surrounding area of Pierce and King County. Pictures unavailable due to HIPAA constraints.
Helped evaluate student progress and transition students with emotional and behavioral disabilities back to their school districts.
As a Special Education Teacher at the Northwest School of Innovative Learning, ethical decision-making was a daily occurrence as I worked with students with emotional and behavioral disabilities. During I.E.P. meetings, I advocated for achievable goals, for school districts to truly consider taking them back and setting firm timetables for their eventual return to less restrictive settings.
Made tough ethical and legal decisions such as reporting parents to Child Protection Services during my job as a Special Education Teacher.
As Lead Special Education Teacher, I advised other staff and conferred with them when I felt they were breaching students' trust. Real conversations led to stronger rapports.
Led Special Ed workshop on active reflection and created a video of staff interviews expressing gratitude for the school.
Sent home daily behavior/academic reports to parents when I taught Special Education at NW SOIL. Reported progress on a daily database that districts could sign in and view as well.
Collaborated with parents and built positive relationships when working on yearly IEP goals from 2009-2014 when I taught at NW SOIL.
Used data to support needs for classroom accommodations or by advocating for less restrictive settings for my students.
Assessed needs and ordered different devices such as weighted vests, bouncy balls, curricular resources, and more as needed for helping to develop the school program.
Served on a hiring team and coordinated with a small group of Admin to help hire new teachers based on classroom needs. I also helped advise Admin on which paraeducators to keep or let go based on their performance with students.
At NW SOIL, the leaving supervisor, Janna George, wanted to promote me to supervisor in her absence. Lack of my administration credentials/experience was a barrier to this initiative.
